Janet is a Registered Psychotherapist and Child and Youth Worker with a Human Services Degree from Athabasca University and an Advanced Child and Youth Worker Diploma from Humber College. She is currently completing the final steps required to become a registered Art Therapist from the Toronto Art Therapy Institute.
Janet has over 12 years of experience supporting children and families in a variety of settings including schools, day treatment programs, community based programs and counselling settings. She has expertise working with those who have experienced abuse, trauma and intimate partner violence. She has supported children who are experiencing issues with anxiety, self esteem, emotional regulation, behavioural concerns, social skills , and who may be struggling to express their thoughts and feelings.
Janet uses art and sensorimotor psychotherapy approaches in combination with talk and play. She has a particular interest in the mind body connection and helping children to understand their feelings and body cues. Janet has a great deal of experience facilitating groups and fostering healthy and attuned parent-child relationships. She is intuitive, creative and empathetic. Janet uses a holistic person centred approach and attachment focused lens. She utilizes trauma informed methods to create a safe, comfortable and playful environment for children to share their narrative, explore creatively and feel supported.
In her spare time Janet enjoys making art, practicing restorative yoga, walking in nature and attending festivals and community events.
