Sarah Nyland is a Certified Child Life Specialist who holds a Master of Science in Child Life and Paediatric Psychosocial Care. Sarah offers a one-of-a-kind service in the Waterloo area that specializes in helping children, teens and families prepare for and cope through potentially stressful life events. Some stressors that Sarah has expertise in supporting are helping children understand and learn about a medical diagnosis or developmental disability; preparing children for a dentist or doctor’s appointment; and supporting children and families when navigating a loss (death/divorce).
When Sarah is not working in the community, she’s working as a Child Life Specialist at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. She has experience working alongside many healthcare professionals and supporting children with varying disabilities. Sarah’s clinical expertise in facilitating creative and play-based interventions has been effective when supporting children and families. She builds on the strengths of each child and customizes her therapeutic modalities to fit each family’s unique experience to promote mental and physical well-being. Her goal when working with children is to enhance their existing strength and resiliency.
