Alexandra is a Registered Social Worker who holds a Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University. Additionally, Alexandra also holds a Honours Bachelor of Science, Kinesiology from McMaster University. Alexandra has over ten years of experience working with children, youth and families in residential care, foster care and community mental health agencies, as well as over three years of experience educating and coaching caregivers in Trauma Informed Caregiving.
Alexandra’s area of expertise involves anxiety, self-esteem, emotion regulation and processing of difficult experiences. Alexandra also has a passion for issues regarding foster care, adoption and attachment.
Alexandra believes in working collaboratively with parents and caregivers to empower them to be the primary agent of change in their child’s life. Alexandra works closely with parents throughout the therapeutic journey to provide a safe, non-judgmental space while providing evidence-based strategies.
Alexandra describes herself as using a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach while drawing from a blend of eclectic and holistic approaches. Alexandra uses techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Bibliotherapy, uses play-based and expressive arts approaches and Emotion Focused Family Therapy (Emotion Coaching). Alexandra has certification in Advanced Trauma Competent Caregiving and is currently completing training in Attachment and Trauma Focused Therapy.
Alexandra has received client feedback that she is calm, warm and empathetic. Alexandra is creative in her approach to develop personalized and developmentally appropriate treatment plans. Alexandra is motivated by her clients to continually grow and strengthen her practice.
