Faruk Arslan is a Registered Social Worker who holds a Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University. He also has a Master of Arts in Religion and Culture and is a PhD Candidate in Human Relationships Psychotherapy and Spiritual Care from Martin Luther College and Wilfrid Laurier University. He holds a BA in Sociology from York University and Social Service Worker Diploma from Centennial College. Faruk is a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW) and Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
Faruk has experience working at the Children’s Aid Society in Brant County and Stratford General Hospital. In his research and practice, he has developed Mindfulness Therapy for youth to overcome symptoms associated with borderline personality disorder (BPD). He is trained in DBT, CBT, EDMR and Jungian Spiritual Dream Interpretation and self-growth design. Frauk has received a certificate in Exposure Therapy Meditation and Indigenous Cultural Safety in Health Care. Faruk has over 10 years’ experience in intervention and treatment of mental health among children, teenagers, and couples from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
Faruk has expertise in the areas of depression, anxiety, PTSD, war trauma, and panic attacks. Faruk works primarily works with teens and young adults (12-21 years old) living with identity crises, emotional, physical and sexual traumas, depression, social anxiety, ADHD, high sensitivity and mood disorders. He also works with children who are struggling with dysregulation, behavioural difficulties, emotional disturbance, grief and bereavement, puberty related stressors, and addictions. He has experience working with children from refugee backgrounds and 2SLGBTQ+ youth. In addition to teens, Faruk works with parents who are wanting to support their child(ren) with ADHD, Asperger Syndrome and Autism.
Drawing from evidence-based practice to tailor treatment for clients, Faruk uses person-centred, Jungian Sandtray Worldplay, and integrative (directive and non-directive) narrative play therapy techniques with children. Drawing from solution focus-based practice to tailor individual treatment for clients, he uses human-centred approach to collaborate with clients for healing. Faruk focuses on the relationship with the client to help clients connect with their authentic selves, and to unlearn patterns that are no longer helpful. He uses psychodynamic, interpersonal, and relational therapies, as well as medicalized eastern mystic mindfulness tools to meet individual needs where they are in their healing journey.
Faruk is passionate about working with adolescents, parents/caregivers and families. He loves poetry and creative arts. He has published poem books and many academic and community articles. He is creative, sincere, warm, holistic, and a strengths-based spiritual person.
