Tyler is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and Certified Music Therapist (MTA). He holds a Master of Music Therapy degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Flute) from the University of Waterloo. Tyler has worked in school-settings, hospitals, long term care and complex care facilities, private practices, group homes, and within the community. In addition to Bloom, he is a music therapist at Grand River Hospital in their Children’s Program providing support in the inpatient children unit, outpatient pediatric oncology clinic and in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
Tyler is passionate about his work with children and families and specializes in using a music- and play-based approaches in working within children’s medical care and mental health settings. He has experience and special interests in his work with anxiety, autism, depression, emotional regulation, medical trauma, cancer care, grief and palliative care, perinatal mental health, and parenting support. He utilizes various approaches such as Music Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Therapeutic Play and Narrative Therapy.
Tyler provides support to children, caregivers, and families to navigate challenging experiences, emotions and relationships through creative arts, music and play-based means of expression. He believes the use of music and play-based interventions allow for children and families to explore and gain insight into attachment, internalized conflicts and develop relationships through free expression. Through a collaborative approach, he seeks to develop safe, inclusive and non-judgmental spaces with his clients and focuses son child-centered care in tailoring sessions to client’s needs and goals.
Tyler grew up in a small town in Southern Ontario and currently lives in Guelph. In his free time, Tyler enjoys hiking, performing, road trips, gardening, travelling and spending time with his family and friends.
