Carey Sipes is a Registered Social Worker who holds a Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University. Carey is also a Certified Children’s Yoga Teacher who provides children a further opportunity to express themselves through the combination of therapeutic play, mindfulness and yoga.
Carey has over 25 years experience providing assessment and treatment for children, teens, young adults, and their families. She has worked in a variety of settings, including the school board, hospital and primary care. Carey continues to work alongside and collaboratively with community partners in helping to support those with whom she works Her support includes advocating and helping individuals navigate mental health, education and social service systems.
Carey works with children and teens experiencing challenges with generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, suicidal ideation, self-harm, self-regulation, grief, family dynamics, school concerns, parenting, stress management, disordered eating and body image and self-esteem.
Carey’s work is informed from a variety of treatment approaches that are evidence based, strength based, trauma informed and client centred. She utilizes techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Attachment and Motivational Interviewing.
Carey is creative, passionate and caring in her approach in working with clients. She recognizes the strength it takes to seek support and she values the trusting relationship between client and counsellor. Young people seeking support will find Carey to be genuine, down to earth, empathetic, non-judgmental, and compassionate.
