Ellyn is a Registered Social Worker. She attended Wilfrid Laurier University where she graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Contemporary Studies, as well as a Master of Social Work. Ellyn has a background supporting the adolescent population in correctional, educational, sports, and community-based mental health and addiction treatment settings.
Stemming from her years as a competitive synchronized swimmer and coach, Ellyn has a passion for supporting the mental health and well-being of athletes. Ellyn is also interested in working with adolescents and young adults in a number of areas such as mental health and behavioural issues including ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, and trauma. She is enthusiastic about supporting individuals navigating life transitions, challenges at school, and family problems.
Ellyn works from a holistic, trauma-informed, strengths-based, client-centered perspective and uses a variety of evidence-based techniques to help individuals work through challenges, develop healthy coping strategies, and thrive. She has additional training in the areas of trauma, addiction, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Sports Social Work.
Ellyn is a strong believer in individuals being the experts of their own lives. Her authentic and down-to-earth approach is based on collaboration and tailoring treatment to meet the unique needs of the individual, or individuals, she is supporting. She strives to meet individuals where they’re at, and help them get to where they want to go. Ellyn places a high emphasis on the importance of the therapeutic relationship and works to create a non-judgmental space where individuals feel safe and empowered to open up.
